FAQs

  • We generally have strawberries from early June to around Thanksgiving (frost). Pick-your-own season runs for 3-4 weeks from late June-mid July weather depending

  • No, the strawberries are not technically organic but we use many organic methods. We follow an Integrated pest management program and use spray only when absolutely necessary

  • Varieties of June-bearing include: Valley sunset, Jewel

    Varieties of Ever-bearing include:

  • No, they are just a different type of plant. As of right now, GMO strawberries do not exist

  • The pick-your-own strawberries are technically called “June bearing” – they grow for the 3-4 weeks of the longest days of the year (most day light). The season is generally from late June-Mid July. They get planted in May and get picked the following year. We usually pick them for 2-3 years

Ever-bearing strawberries are technically called day neutrals – they can’t tell the day length so they will start growing when they are planted and stop when frost turns them dormant for the winter. They get planted in May and will start producing by the same mid-late July. We will pick them until about thanksgiving. They will come back for one more pick in early June of the following year and that’s it.

We plant both every year and do crop rotation within our fields

There are many varieties of both types of strawberries – varieties are based on what type of soil and climate they do better in, and whether they are an early-later season berry.

Taste, size and shape can vary between all varieties – ALL ARE DELICIOUS!

  • Currently we grow baby cucumbers, dill, rhubarb, gladiolas, sunflowers, corn, raspberries, tomatoes, and pumpkins

  • In the past we have grown broccoli, peppers, tomatoes, corn, squash, pumpkin, spinach, kale, beans and peas

  • No, our raspberries are currently not pick your own. About 20 years ago we used to.

  • This is all determined based on our integrated pest management program. A scout will check our fields regularly and determine if there is a need for any. Depending what the problem is we use pesticide, fungicide or herbicide.

 Pick Your Own FAQs

  • Pick your own generally runs anywhere from mid June-mid July. This is HIGHLY dependent upon the weather and how our crops of over-wintered.

  • During pick your own season we do our best to be open Monday-Saturday. This is also HIGHLY dependent upon the weather, crop, and how busy we are (if we get picked out). We ALWAYS recommend either checking social media or calling the store BEFORE coming for pick your own, just in case! Generally, if we are open the hours are Monday-Friday 8-6 and Saturday 9-5.

  • Yes, you can bring anything you like to pick into. We also have containers available for purchase to use.

  • In our farm market we have lots of snacks, food, and refreshment for purchase. New this year, we have a seating area just outside the market. Additionally, there is some grassy area if you choose to spend some extra time on the farm. Please ask a staff member where it is okay to do so.

  • When you first arrive at the farm you will go to our Pick your Own Express tent to check in. There you can either purchase containers to use or have your containers from home weighed. This is so that we can take the weight of the container off your cost at the end. You will be directed to a section/row of a specific field where we are picking for the day. We ask that you please stay in the area we’ve assigned to you as it helps us better manage and track where has and hasn’t been picked yet. When you are done picking you come back to the tent where we weigh your berries and charge you by weight/pound.

  • While we understand that tasting one or two is all part of the experience, we ask that you not eat a full meal while in the field.

  • Our pick your own Strawberries are charged by weight. We have yet to determine what the price/pound will be this year. You are able to pay via cash, debit or credit.

  • Please leave all pets at home when visiting the berry field. As much as we love dogs here at Taylor Farms, for food safety reasons, we don't permit pets in the PYO patch.

  • If there is a light rain the berry patch will likely remain open, there are no covered areas in the field so please dress for the weather. If it is heavy rain that is unlikely to let up for the day, we may choose to close the patch so please call before coming. If there is any thunder or lightening the patch will be closed.

  • Unfortunately we do not provide any transportation options to/from the pick your own fields and do not permit the use of your own vehicles to the fields. Most of our fields are only a short walk, less than 300m.
